The right lens follows a sequence of measurements
Choosing a lens name or diameter alone is not enough. The process begins with eye and corneal assessment, followed by trial fitting and evaluation of clearance, edge alignment, movement, comfort and vision before the final design is ordered.
Which specialty lens types are assessed?
Options include corneal RGP, hybrid and selected customised soft designs, as well as scleral lenses. They may be considered for keratoconus, post-surgical irregularity or scarring after individual assessment.
What determines comfort and success?
Appropriate design, ocular-surface health, handling technique, correct solutions and regular follow-up all matter. Pain, persistent redness or sudden visual reduction requires lens removal and prompt assessment.
Daily care
Use only solutions recommended for the lens type, and never expose lenses or cases to tap water. Scleral lenses commonly require sterile, preservative-free saline for filling before insertion.
